All About Post-Production

The cameras stop rolling, the director yells “CUT,” but production is not over yet. Turning on the camera and pressing RECORD is only half of the film-making process. The other half is post-production - where the ASR Media team spends their time taking the footage to the next level.

The blueprint of film-making involves three stages:

  • Pre-production: Preparation and planning before filming; this involves casting, script review, film instructions & scheduling.

  • Production: Filming; collaborating with the director, film crew, and subject to create the content.

  • Post-production: Assembling the content into a deliverable; editing, animating, and sending for review.

Once the production team, including producers and camera operators, completes filming, the process of taking everything to the next level begins. This includes finding just the right soundbites, adding visual effects, voiceovers, and music to tell a story.

“ I love being able to take the bare bones of an interview and create it into a story that engages and moves the audience.” ~Dakota, Lead Editor

ASR Media Productions works with clients throughout the editing and review process to ensure the end product aligns with their goals. Our video production services include commercials, corporate and community stories, testimonials, and motion graphics which involve different start points for our ASR Team

Editors typically start a project by reviewing production notes, allowing them to understand pertinent information about the script and purpose of the video. Our team works diligently to cut through the interview footage and condense it into soundbites that best tell our client’s story. Soundbites keep statements brief, to the point, and are engaging. We take out the pauses, “um’s,” and “uh’s,” to make the subject sound seamless.

Once the audio is mapped out, we create magic with supporting assets like background music and graphic elements. Using programs like FinalCut Pro and Motion, our team takes the time to creatively compile the video. Music is one of the most critical pieces of the editing process because it impacts the way the audience interprets the message and helps set the tempo to portray a specific emotion. Graphics are a crucial element to help engage the audience with a cohesive and compelling video - words and sound make everything more memorable. The editing process is the most time-consuming but brings the vision of the video to life.

“What I enjoy most about post-production is the ability to see a project come together, picking out the music, trying new things, and branding the video to each individual client. “ ~ Abby, Senior Editor

Before clients view the video for the first time, projects go through an internal review process that involves the editors, producers, and our senior editor. This is the most enjoyable component for the ASR team - it’s like witnessing a flower bloom, from a seedling of an idea to a story told.
